Wafels & Dinges!!

Soon after we moved to NYC, I caught an episode of Throwdown with Bobby Flay featuring Wafels & Dinges. Wafels & Dinges is a food truck that makes (what else) waffles - to be exact, Beligian waffles with all sorts of toppings. (I am guessing that wafel is how waffle is spelled in Belgium, and dinges = toppings.) When Bobby Flay challenged them to a Belgian waffle throwdown, Wafels & Dinges won. Ever since then I have been obsessed with trying out Wafels & Dinges. However, as it is a food truck and always on the move, it hasn't ever been really convenient for me to 'stop by'. I finally got to go this past Monday for lunch. I am so soo sooo sad it took me so long, because I have been missing out!

BBQ Pulled Pork Wafel

Based on feedback from their Twitter fans, I decided to try the BBQ Pulled Pork Wafel. After all, it was lunch time, and I needed some kind of 'meal'. It was super yummy. The pork was tender, juicy and just the right mix of smoky and spicy. The coleslaw was pretty tasty, and I don't usually like coleslaw. But, the best part was the sweet, crunchy waffle underneath. The flavors were really similar to a bbq sandwich; you have all the same components, but with a sweet touch from the Belgian waffle. It was pretty darn good. I did not know that meat+waffle = delicious! (On a side note, while there are many places in Dallas that are known for a good Fried Chicken and Waffle, I have never managed to order one. I will definitely do so next time I am in Dallas!)

De Throwdown Wafel

For dessert, I chose De Throwdown Wafel. I knew I would be getting this waffle because it is the waffle that beat Bobby Flay. OH. MY. GAWD!!! This was the most delicious dessert I have ever eaten (maybe not, but it was soo freakin' good!!!) The waffle itself was a Liege waffle, which is a super sugary, sweet waffle. The waffle was topped with their speculoos spread, which is amazing! From Google searches, I have gathered that speculoos are traditional Belgian spice cookies, but Wafels & Dinges crushes the cookies up and whips them into a spread. All I know is it tastes like syrupy, sugary, peanuty goodness. Top all that off with mounds of whip cream. Again, it was the most delicious dessert (definitely in the Top 5) that I have ever eaten.

I recommend Wafels & Dinges to anyone who happens to be in New York - New Yorker or visitor - as it is just plain awesome :)
