Premium Rush (2011)

Funny story... The last few weekends they have been filming Premium Rush (coming out in 2011) in our neighborhood. (Premium Rush is an action film starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt about a NYC bike messenger being pursued by a dirty cop.) The first time we ran into the filming crew was last Sunday. We were walking back to our apartment after running in Riverside Park. We needed to cross Broadway (at 98th) and we would be 10 steps from our apartment. At Broadway, we were stopped by a film crew guy telling us "We're filming on Broadway. You can't cross right now. You will have to go down and cross at 97th." I thought, "No big deal that's just a block out of our way." But Matt starts arguing with him, throwing out expletives while trying to cross the street anyways. The film crew guy had to put out an arm against Matt's chest to stop him from crossing Broadway and eventually managed to stop Matt from crossing Broadway at 98th and use the 'detour' route at 97th. However, I am thinking, "What the heck is wrong with Matt? He is acting like a crazy person!"

As we are walking towards 97th, Matt asks "Was I a jack@ss?" I firmly responded "Yes, you were. What was that about?" He said when the film crew guy first said they were filming on Broadway, Matt thought he said they were moving Broadway. I was like, "What? Why would you think someone would say they are moving Broadway?" Apparently, in Matt's mind the film crew guy may have been a Columbia student playing a practical joke (as college kids sometimes do). Anyways, it was a fairly amusing incident. I got a good laugh out of Matt acting like a grade-A jerk and he felt bad about it the rest of the day ;)

This past weekend we ran into the film crew again (this time on Amsterdam Ave) when coming back from brunch. And, this time Matt was much nicer. He started chatting up a film crew person asking what the movie was about, who was in it, etc. We also tried to catch a glimpse of Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but no luck.

So, if you see Premium Rush in 2011, know that it was filmed in our neighborhood and maybe you will see us somewhere in the background :)
