Our Church

Since we have been in New York City, we have been visiting several churches in our neighborhood trying to find our new church home. We have decided to attend The Cathedral Church of St. John the Divine. It is a beautiful church and reminds us of our church in Dallas, which we really loved (and really miss). We really enjoy the style and reverence of the services. So far only one priest gets a little political in his sermons, but for the most part the sermons are very enlightening and uplifting. Also, our new church is a pretty important church here in NYC. It is the Cathedral of the Episcopal Diocese of New York and the seat of its Bishop. It always has visitors/sight-seers, tour buses stopping outside of it, people taking pictures, etc. One day Matt and I are actually going to tour it and take in all of its history and beauty. But, for now we are perfectly content to absorb the beauty and reverence of this church on Sundays during service.

Anyways, here are some pics (besides the one at the top of this blog post).

I think (but not confirmed) this is the original church/chapel.

An awesome sculpture in the church courtyard that has everything from the sun, to a giraffe, to an angel, to crab/lobster claws :)

  1. I remember going to church there on a visit years ago, it's a really impressive church. Sounds like you guys are settling in and making NYC home for now. One of these days we're planning a trip up there, you'll have to give us the inside scoop on what to see and do!
