On Saturday, we had lunch with a friend at the 79th St Boat Basin Cafe, a lovely spot by the Hudson River with nice water views and a great atmosphere. As Saturday really was very very windy, we spent the rest of the day indoors. We found a great sushi place in our neighborhood - sushi was good, sake was warm and the prices were very affordable. Then we went to the movies and helped to make The American the #1 movie over the weekend.
On Sunday, we lunched at Burger Burger, which claims to have the best burger in NYC ;) The pic below shows you the layers of artery-clogging goodness that was the Cajun Turkey burger. Of course I had to try and offset that heart-attack-in-a-bun with a salad :)
After lunch we happened upon this street and decided we have to come back soon for lunch/brunch. It is so charming and is like having a little bit of Europe in NYC :)
We spent our afternoon at the historic Battery Park. Battery Park is historic for several reasons (but I'll only give you two here :)): It was often used as an artillery battery (hence the name) throughout history by the Dutch and the British AND it was the immigration entrance point into New York before Ellis Island. Also, there is a very impressive WWII memorial in the park that honors the American servicemen who lost their lives at sea during WWII. The memorial is a marble/granite statue flanked by granite slabs with the names, rank, organization and state of the servicemen.
On Monday, we played the tourist card and visited Top of the Rock at Rockefeller Center. Floors 69-70 of Rockefeller Center are a partially enclosed observatory offering fabulous views of New York City. It was really awesome to see New York City from up high and we could even see our apartment from the northwest side! Pics below :)
