In the Weeds

So, this semester is the "weed out" semester, so to speak, of my nursing program. My class has heard very scary stories and statistics about the class before us regarding this semester's 'weeding out' abilities. (Ex: 20 or so students (out of about 70) either failed or dropped out during this semester.) The reason this semester is so difficult, as compared to other semesters, is because the program is set up in a way where we have to take two clinical classes this semester instead of the usual one clinical class. A clinical class means we have 2-3 hours of lecture, 3 hours of lab and a full day at a hospital (aka 'clinical') each week - this is all for one class. Theoretically, you can multiply this workload by two for this semester. And, the classes aren't 'light' material: Medical-Surgical Nursing and Psychiatric Nursing. Needless to say, most everyone in my class is walking around like zombies with half of their hair pulled out ;) I myself am spending hours studying and not accomplishing near as much as I would like at each study session. Mind you, I am not complaining. The material is very interesting, and I am enjoying learning it... but a bit stressed, to say the least ;)

To leave you all with a fun story: At my Psychiatric clinical this past Thursday, it was the end of the day and our group of student nurses (about 8 plus the professor) were leaving through the double-locked doors. As we are making our way through the first set of doors, one of the patients decides to try and make a break for it. She starts coming towards us very quickly, trying to get out before the doors close. Of course, one of the nurses sees her and tries to stop her. So, the patient starts to take swings at the nurse. This all happens right in front of me, and I have to back into a corner, with my hands up over my face, to avoid the patients flailing arms. The nurse, with the help of our professor, was able to control the patient. I was unharmed, and we all made it out of the Psych unit successfully. Good times ;)

Matt's job has been keeping him pretty busy, as well. He has been involved in lots of pitches lately and having to travel a lot. Last week, he was in Atlanta at the first part of the week and had to make a trip to Hartford, CT in the later part of the week. Next week, he is having to go back up to Hartford, CT and possibly to California. Of course, Matt's awesome presentation skills and business smarts are what is making him the 'top pick' for all these pitches. I am very proud of how valuable he is to the company, but wish we both had a little time to slow down. In that regard, we do have a trip booked to Jamaica over my Spring Break, and I cannot wait!!!

Hope everyone is doing well wishing you all a lovely week :)
