I Heart Texas!

And, I love being Texan! :)

As every good Texan knows, March 2nd is Texas Independence Day, when Texas declared independence from Mexico. I don't actually remember ever celebrating Texas Independence Day when we lived in Texas, but there is a big hooplah here in NYC about it. Last night, we went to the 4th Annual Texas Independence Day concert featuring Pat Green; also playing were the Josh Abbot Band, the Randy Rogers Band and the Eli Young Band. It was sold out and the place was packed with Texans! Also, there was a promotion that if you wore any article of clothing featuring a Texas university/college, you got a free drink. So, everywhere you looked were familiar school colors/logos along with pearl snaps, cowboy hats, boots... You would have thought you were in Texas :)

It was so great to be surrounded by good Texas music and friendly, familiar Texas people (you know, when you live away from the South, you realize there is a "look and feel" to being Southern and then all Southern people start to look "familiar" to you - crazy). Soaking up all this Texas culture reinforced mine and Matt's thoughts about returning to the South when it is time for us to raise a family. We really, really love living in NYC and will be here for as long as it makes sense for us. But, when we think about raising a family and the values we want to instill, the experiences we want to have as a family and the environment we want to raise a family in, we know the South is the best fit for us. I'll bet that makes a lot of people reading this blog happy to hear ;)

Enjoying the show

YAY Pat:)

This is Pat singing to his wife, who was up in the balcony on the second floor. He did this a couple of times - it was sweet :)
