Christmas 2011

Christmas (or pre-Christmas) in NYC
In early December, we went to the Park Avenue Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony with a group of friends. The Park Ave tree lighting has been a tradition since 1945. Started by families on Park Ave as a memorial to those who lost their lives in World War II, it is continued today as a memorial to all the men and women who have lost their lives serving the country. The night started with a carol service out on the street in front of the Brick Presbyterian Church, and then the trees were all lit up and down Park Ave. It was a really wonderful event, and I hope we get to go to it again next year.

Like last year, we took a day off before our extended Christmas trip to Dallas to take in the windows, lights, trees and other decorations that make up "Christmas in New York".

I don't particularly like Macy's windows display as they try to go too modern, in my opinion. However, they have a really cool Christmas tree of lights on the outside of their building.

The remaining pictures are from Lord & Taylor's windows. They do a really good job of making the windows a traditional Christmas feel, but in a current/modern way. All of these windows have moving parts, but I couldn't capture that in a photo :(

The windows were surrounded by Christmas drawings of local school kids - sweet :)

Christmas in Dallas
Our week in Dallas was so great, filled with family and friends! We got to spend a lot of time with our families - participating in traditions like cookie making, Christmas Eve dinner, and Christmas night drinks at Gman (it should come as no surprise that Matt and I started this particular tradition :)). Pretty much every night after Christmas was filled with friends at some of our favorite Dallas hangouts and some fun new places.

While writing this post, I realized that I don't take enough pictures when we are in Dallas (hardly any, actually). All the below pics are actually my mom's. So, I only get to share with you (visually, anyways) our Christmas with the Burketts. I will need to do better on our next visit.

Christmas Cookie Making

I'm just a regular Martha Stewart (yea, right ;))

Alek's first cookie

Nykkolaas prefers to eat (vs. decorate) the cookies - smart kid ;)

Keagan mostly just piled on the icing, but he was enjoying himself :)

Everyone participated....

... but, surprisingly, the adults seem to outlast the kids every year.

What's a family gathering without a little bit of family rivalry? ;)

Finished cookies! (at least the ones that didn't get eaten along the way ;))

Christmas Morning

It's really hard to get a picture of 9 people (including 3 kids) with everyone looking at the camera :)

Christmas stockings... My mom made these for me and my brothers when we were babes. So, mine is quite old, but still looks pretty good. Matt's is fairly new since he joined the family only 3 1/2 yrs ago ;)

A&M t-shirt quilt!! I have tons of A&M t-shirts and have been bugging my mom for this for the last several birthdays, Christmases, etc. SOOO excited! :)

Of course, my dad can't resist throwing some horns into any picture involving A&M - oh, Dad!

Such a great visit, and we are looking forward to our next visit back home!
