For some crazy reason, we were still hungry after the chili cook off, so we stopped off at Hill Country Chicken as we were in the area and had been wanting to try it out. Hill Country Chicken is a fried-chicken restaurant close to Madison Square Park. It is the sister restaurant to Hill Country, a Texas BBQ place in Midtown. We had original fried chicken, honey-butter biscuit, carrot/raisin cole slaw and root beer - yummy! :) I am glad we tried it out, because we really weren't impressed with Hill Country (the original) but really liked Hill Country Chicken. We give it two thumbs up!

Lone Star Chili Cook Off 2011
From the title of this post, you'd think we were in Texas this past weekend, but we were in NYC! The New York Texas Exes and The New York A&M Club hosted their annual Lone Star Chili Cook Off, which we attended and had a great time! However, you pretty much couldn't tell that it was co-hosted by The New York A&M Club as it was pretty much a sea of orange with me and about 6 other people in maroon. Oh well... it was still a good time with all you can drink beer/wine and all you can eat chili! We tasted about 6 different chilis, but there were probably 20 - 30 teams there. So, we really didn't even scratch the surface. Chili team names ranged from Chili Sheen to Trump This to Here Today, Hot Tamale and many other creative names. There was also an abundance of chili accessories such as onions, peppers, fritos, croutons, cheese, cornbread - the works! It was really a lot of fun. The venue was pretty awesome as well. It was on a roof-top deck of a building called 230 Fifth, located at 230 5th Ave (not such a creative name, but I guess it works). The roof-top deck was fitted out with palm trees, tents, heaters (as they boast that it is open for brunch year round). Also, below the roof-top deck was a pretty swanky penthouse lounge. Matt and I are definitely going back for brunch and drinks some time.
