Succulents

I am by no means a gardener, but have from time to time entertained the idea of trying out my green thumb with some outdoor plants or maybe a small herb garden.  The balcony of our apartment gave me the perfect opportunity as it looks over an empty lot at the apartment building next door and really needed some 'prettying up' to make it an enjoyable space.

I knew that as I had no previous gardening experience or successes, I should start with something easy and fairly error proof.  Living in southern California, succulents seem to be the perfect plant variety as they are local favorites, grow well here, grow well in drought environments (which we are experiencing big time) and fit the bill for 'easy' and 'error proof' plants.  So far, my little succulent garden is coming along quite nicely and encouraging me to try some harder plants for a little more color on our balcony - maybe some potted orchids (as I have seen these at the Farmer's Market and really like the color and looks of them). Anyways, below are some of my favorite succulents on our balcony right now, and I have no clue about the plant varieties, so don't ask ;)
