Living in Santa Monica

I had mentioned moving to Santa Monica in my last post over 2 months ago... we all know I'm horrible at blogging with any consistency, so I'm going to stop making excuses. Maybe one day I'll surprise us all, who knows ;)

So, like I said - two months ago we moved to Santa Monica and we are loving it! We didn't hate our old place at all (in Marina del Rey). In fact, the community had really started to grow on us as we were starting to find our niche.  But, our lease was up in our old apartment, and we wanted to move to a bigger apartment for more space. Since we were going to have to move anyways, we decided to see if moving to another area was a good idea since we spend a lot of our time outside of Marina del Rey. Both of our jobs are in Culver City, so we looked there. And, a lot of our free time is spent in Santa Monica - going out, going shopping, going to church. So, we looked in Santa Monica, too. We actually like Culver City quite a bit, but there is really only one part of Culver City (and it's a small part) that is fun, happening, walkable, etc.  However, there are lots of parts within Santa Monica that are fun, trendy, walkable, bustling, etc... And, as mentioned, we actually spend a lot of our lives there, so we made the move.

We have moved to downtown Santa Monica which close to the beach, the Promenade and has lots of stuff within walking distance. I walk to pretty much everything except work (because it is too far and requires highway access) and the grocery store (which is close enough, but I don't want to walk with bags of groceries on my shoulders). In fact, I haven't had to buy gas in over a month! Besides that lovely convenience, we are able to go to all of our favorite places, explore new places and do errands all without driving. It is much more suited to our lifestyle than our old neighborhood, and we are very happy to have made the move. Also, we have a 2 bedroom/2 bath now, which allows room for visitors - so come visit :)

In the past 2 months, here are some fun things we have been doing...

Beach Visit

On our first weekend living in Santa Monica, we took advantage of our close proximity to the beach and spent a lovely afternoon in the sun, enjoying the waves.

Revisit to Runyon Canyon

We had first discovered Runyon Canyon when our friends Thea and Whitney came to visit over a year ago. We kept saying we would go back often, but just made it back a few weeks ago.

Culver City Climb

There's a hill/climb site in Culver City, Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook. One Saturday, we decided to visit the hill to see the overlook and use the stairs as a workout (in place of our bike ride that morning). We climbed up the stairs and ran down the hill trail (twice). Plus, I stopped to take some pictures at the top.

USC Trojans Game

As you all know, we LOVE college football. So, when Groupon had a USC Trojans deal, I took it! We went to the USC vs Colorado game, which happened to be their homecoming, and which they won handily. So, the game ended up being a little bit boring, but the campus was HUGE and gorgeous. It was a fun day being 'in college' again :)

Santa Monica Steps

A couple of weekends ago, we combined our Saturday morning bike ride with the Santa Monica Steps.  These are steps (about 170 of them) that ascend 109 feet through a steep residential area that is in a bay-area-valley of sorts. Apparently, there are two sets of steps, a winding one and straight shot. We took the winding one - basically because we couldn't find the other one. But, we will go back as it was a great (and fun!) workout, and we will try to find the all the steps next time. Here are some shots of the view (which shows you one of the reasons we like living in Santa Monica ;))
