Happy Thanksgiving!!

So, this Thanksgiving has been very similar to the other two Thanksgivings we've had in NYC, and I love that we have a Thanksgiving tradition. First, we wake up (pretty early) and go to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. Then we go home and chill/nap/whatever for a few hours before heading out to some yummy restaurant for our late-afternoon Thanksgiving dinner. Back home after our dinner, we watch some football and prepare for the trip we take over Thanksgiving weekend. Sounds nice, right? It is! :)

Here are some shots from the parade. The celebs we saw: Jimmy Fallon, Don McLean, Whoopi Goldberg, Trace Atkins, Kareem-Abdul Jabar, The Fierce Five (US Olympic gymnastics team) and then some tween/teen celebs that I have no clue who they are.

Charlie Brown was my favorite float :)

Santa!

Our Thanksgiving dinner was at Ruth's Chris, and I have to say it was the best one we have had so far. The other two places we have gone for Thanksgiving dinner were both very nice, lovely places, but (for me) the turkey was always a little dry. Ruth's Chris got it right. The turkey was perfect, the sides were amazing (I will dream about their sweet potato casserole tonight - it was SOOOO GOOD!!), the dessert was delicious, and it was the cheapest Thanksgiving dinner we've had here in NYC. To top it all off, they send you home with Thanksgiving leftovers (even if you finished all of yours at the restaurant). Good job, Ruth's Chris! I highly recommend Thanksgiving dinner here for anyone who eats out for Thanksgiving and who has a Ruth's Chris in their city.

The spread: Delicious turkey and gravy (with some bread and sausage stuffing hiding under it - YUM!), cranberry sauce, the most delicious sweet potato casserole I have ever had (sorry, Mom) and some healthy green beans thrown in for good measure ;)

Leftovers! Which I have already eaten ;)

For the last part of our Thanksgiving 'tradition', we are traveling tomorrow - to Niagara Falls, ON. I am so excited!! I can't wait to see the falls, and we get to add another country to our list. Hopefully (fingers-crossed), I will get to blog about that trip soon.

In other news....
So, what else have we been up to? Sadly, not much. I am studying all the time, and this is not an exaggeration (read/study on the subway, listen to lectures while running, stay up into the wee hours of the night, etc). I love my classes; I love nursing, but it is a lot of work. I am finished with this semester in 3 weeks, and I am looking forward to a break! Besides my school load, Matt is getting busier and busier at his job. However, we have tried to make time for some fun things...

We saw Glen Campbell on his Goodbye Tour. Glen Campbell is not ever someone I thought I would see in concert, but we went for a couple of reasons: 1) He was performing at Carnegie Hall, which we hadn't been to yet 2) It was his Goodbye Tour, and he is a cultural 'icon' of his generation. So we thought he was worth seeing. I did recognize some of his songs, which I thought I would. However, I was also surprised by how nice Glen Campbell's voice is. He has a really, really nice, smooth, baritone voice. It was nice to listen to :)

Also, Matt and I ran our longest race thus far. In October, we ran a half-marathon. (Putting us closer to our goal of running the marathon next year.) Matt is super awesome and came in at a 7:30-minute mile pace. My goal was to finish under a 8:00-minute mile pace (which I have done in most of our races, but they were significantly shorter than 13 miles). I barely made it with a 7:59-minute mile pace :)

AND, we have had a few celebrity sightings recently: Matt saw Matt Dillon while running in Central Park. We both saw Bill Murray at a restaurant in our neighborhood while out for dinner a few weeks ago. He was probably one of our better sightings in a while - exciting stuff!

Hurricane Sandy
So, I really wanted to post about Hurricane Sandy closer to when it happened, but school work got in the way. Matt and I really appreciate all of the calls, emails, texts and FB posts from our family and friends regarding our well-being during and after the storm.

We were really very lucky, as we were not effected by the storm in any major way. We live in a part of the island that isn't really vulnerable to rising water. We are more or less in the middle of the island, so not in any low-lying flood zones. And, while the storm had some very strong winds, they didn't have any major impact on our building. There was some minor cosmetic damage to the roof, but on the opposite side of where we live. And, we were happy to have kept our power throughout the storm. So, all in all, we were lucky and fortunate. The biggest effect Sandy had on us was some very scary-sounding winds that rattled our windows, a bit of cold rain and the inconvenience of losing the public transportation system for a few days.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends. And, hopefully I will be blogging about our Canadian adventures soon :)
