The first weekend in October, Matt and I got to go to New Orleans, LA for a friend's wedding. It was Matt's first time to NOLA, and my first time as a responsible adult (other times were as a crazy college student and a not-so-responsible adult ;)). We had a great time!
We woke up way too early on a Saturday morning to catch a 6:45AM flight on JetBlue (LOVE JetBlue - wish they flew to Dallas). We got to our hotel in NOLA around 11AM and went exploring. We found what looked like a good local bar in the French Quarter that had lots of TVs showing college football and a great beer selection. So, we stopped here to watch the Aggies and enjoy some Southern beers that we don't have access to in NYC. I remember thinking how much I love the South. Everyone was decked out in college team apparel, they were intently watching the games, cheering and booing. These are things we don't usually see in NYC. Matt and I always go out to watch the games, but no one else seems that interested. Also, as we left the bar, I heard "Y'all have a good day." I thought "Ahh. How good it is to be back in the South where they say Y'all and love a good day of college football!" :)
After the bar, we found an outside cafe with live music for lunch. We had some po-boys as this seemed a popular food in NOLA. Then we went back to the hotel to rest up before the wedding.
The wedding was gorgeous. It was held on a plantation, Oak Alley, a little outside of New Orleans. The weather was perfect; the sun was setting; it was a beautiful, natural setting and the bride/groom really just let the nature around us shine. The ceremony was very nice, and the preacher gave an excellent sermon. The food had a local NOLA flair and was very yummy. The dancing was fun, as always with our group. After the wedding, we all went out to Bourbon Street for a little post-wedding party. As you can tell, it was a good time :)
Sunday we met up with everyone for some brunch and more football watching. Then Matt and I did a little more exploring. We checked out Jackson Square, sipped beer at a mirco brewery on the river, had some Blue Bell Ice Cream (YUMMY!), which we can't get in NYC.
Jackson Square
Sunday night we checked out Luke Restaurant by Chef John Besh. I was first introduced to Chef John Besh when he was competing on The Next Iron Chef. He was my favorite, and I really wanted him to win (he came in 2nd). So, I was really excited to check out one of his restaurants. I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was cozy and fun. Even Matt was impressed and is also now a fan of Chef John Besh.
We left for NYC on Monday, but not until later in the day so we had a little bit of time to do some more exploring. We took the Charles Street Trolley to the World War II Museum. It was a really neat experience. The museum is done very well, and as usual I learned a lot. Matt already knew it all, of course ;) Lucky for us, Chef John Besh had another restaurant right next to the museum. So, we got to have his cuisine twice. It was just as good the second time - love him!
All in all, a great trip and we are so happy for our friends Scott and Krissi!!
