First, we climbed up the mountain trail. I think we only climbed up about half way (maybe two-thirds way) but the view was great and that was enough for us as we wanted to make sure we experienced as much of the park as we could.
So, after coming back down the mountain, we walked around the lake. There was a man fishing on the lake and of course Matt was instantly jealous that he did not have a fishing pole with him. Upon talking with the fisherman, Matt learned that the park stocks trout and bass. He is already planning on buying a 'travel' fishing rod/reel and going back up to the park for some fishing :) On our walk around the lake we also saw a hawk snatch up a chipmunk (we think - it was some kind of small rodent) and feast on him for lunch. YUM ;)
After the walk around the lake, we had worked up a good appetite and stopped at the Oktoberfest tents for some Spaten Oktoberfest beer and bratwursts. It was delicious and filling, which is good because the Belgian waffles were calling my name, but I was pretty full.
After lunch we walked through the Trailside Zoo where we saw bears (of course), coyotes, bobcats, opossums (call out to Trish), owls, bald eagle, beavers and all kinds of other fun stuff.
We really had a good time and have decided Bear Mountain Park Oktoberfest is something we want to do every year. Also, the same bus line we took to the park goes onto West Point, which is something we will do this year if we happen to get an abnormally warm weekend, but next year for sure.
Below are some pretty fall foliage pics :)
