On Saturday, we started out at Madison Square Park and walked down Broadway to Union Square. Both squares are 'hopping' places to be on the weekend with loads of people, fruit/vegetable markets, eclectic musical acts, etc. Also, the strip of Broadway from Madison Square Park to Union Square has good shopping, as does Union Square itself. All in all, it was a very nice Saturday afternoon. We hadn't yet had NYC pizza and decided we needed to remedy that. We looked at reviews of several pizza shops close to Madison Square Park and Union Square and settled on Mozzarelli's at Madison Square Park. The look of the pizza did not disappoint (pics below) - BIG slices, gooey toppings and even different bread choices. Matt got a good 'ole cheese slice, and I got a goat cheese and spinach on pumpernickel rye bread. However, we weren't super impressed with our first NYC pizza experience - didn't blow us away.
Luckily, on Sunday afternoon while hanging out at a friend's place and watching the FIFA World Cup final, we ordered pizza from a place called Artichoke in the East Village and it was pretty good stuff. This pizza brought our impression of NYC pizza back to high levels. We of course are now on a crusade to try as many NYC pizzerias as we can to find the 'best' pizza - maybe even in different categories, Best Take-Out Pizza, Best Gourmet Pizza, Best Hole in the Wall Pizzeria - who knows! So, if you know of a good pizza place in New York - please send it our way :)
On another fun food/beverage note, we found this great beer this weekend (brewed in New York state). While the beer is actually pretty good on taste, the best part is the name/logo and brewery name. See below :)
